With the amount of rising bands in the music world it is quite hard not to miss a few. However, I would not be surprised if you HAVE heard of Texas-based hardcore band Mouth of the South. These guys have been blowing up social sites, and climbing music charts with their recent release “Transparency”.
I first heard of these guys at a local house show around the New Braunfels/San Antonio area. I went with a couple of friends of mine and they happened to be one of the bands performing in a random suburban home. Since I had never heard of MOTS I sat back and enjoyed the show. In the living room of this home Mouth of the South brought a fiery passion and intensity that made everyone feel right at a show. The heavy guitars and pounding drums created an atmosphere you would normally only feel at a venue. These guys were a force to be reckoned with.
In regard to “Transparency”, I hear that same intensity that was experienced inside that home. Tracks like “Riddance” and “Epilogue” showcase MOTS at their finest and urge the listener to headbang. Lyrically, we hear the screams of a broken man fighting against conviction and the complacency of this world. The men in Mouth of the South have no shame in yelling their own God-fearing words at their audience while still maintaining a hardcore atmosphere. Now, not all bands have perfect releases and MOTS is no exception. After listening, “Transparency” left me desiring a better produced version of these songs. I also felt that some lyrics came off as weak, and quickly spoken. Still, if you’re a fan of Your Memorial, Northlane, The Plot In You, and Gideon.. give these guys a listen.
