They’re Only Chasing Safety

For all you metalheads out there that love Underoath’s Cries of the Past” CD this CD may not be for you. Don’t get me wrong i love that CD it is amazing in its own right. But I love this CD way more. Maybe because my short attention span can’t hold out for an 11 minute song but hey we all have our Faults.

This CD as their website describes is more of a “cleaner more direct heavy rock style avoiding any hardcore clich’s they might have previously garnered.” I would have to agree. It is very not metal but it is very amazing. And still very Underoath. The Keyboards give it away. This CD has much better hooks than any of their previous releases. The style reminds me of a refined version of their song “When the Sun Sleeps.” The harmonies of the two vocalists are done very well. There is also good contrast as far as pretty singing and cathartic screaming. One word I would use to describe this CD well besides AMAZING would be DANCIBLE. I am not sure that it is actually a word but for my purposes I will say so. I cannot wait to see them live so I can just dance like a fool it will be wonderful.

Underoath picked a perfect song to be their single. “Re-Inventing Your Exit” has one of the best hooks on the CD. The video which I am told was produced by the singer of Thursday is also a rad video you can check it out at Tooth and Nails site. One other song that stuck out to me was “It’s Dangerous Business Walking Out”. This would be one of their more experimental song sonically. It has an amazingly catchy hook and my favorite part a mini choir singing “drowning in my sleep” over and over. The contrast of the rest of the song and this part are rad especially when they overlap. Check it out.

The only thing I can complain about on this release is the fact that I could not take it out of my CD player.
