It is not very often that I review compilaton CD’s but this CD has some new tracks from the Chariot, Norma Jean, He is Legend and Showbread so I figured it could be worth it for that reason.
Track 1: I am very sad to say, I am not huge on the new Norma Jean. The weird thing is I love their vocalist (formaly the vocalist of Eso Charis), but I Don’t like him very much in Norma Jean. Perhaps it is just not the same and I need to let go, I am going to give it a fair chance when it comes out, it just seems so different.
Track 5: ONe of Showbreads new tracks a Llama eats a Giraffe (and Vice Versa)”. As I said in my Showbread review. I love this track it is energetic and filled with the Raw Rock we have
come to expect from these boys. These guys have certainly evolved over the years into something new that is gonna take this world by storm. Be sure to support these guys on the upcoming with He is Legend and the Chariot.
Track 7: He is Legends new track from “I Am Hollywood” entitled “I Am Hollywood” is a good track. Again the vocal stylings are a little different take some getting used to but they are good. The thing that does it for me with this band is the mix of those amazingly disgusting screams I was talking about with their awesome use of tri-tones and metal. OH and did I mention they often add some “sasscore” moments some upbeat phrases like “SHAKE THAT THING!” This is one of the shining traacks on the CD for me.
Track 9: wow what can you say about the Chariot. They make noise sound good. I think there are only a couple times when their instruments are actually playing the same thing. A few of you who have downloaded some of their tracks of Purvolume.com or HxCmp3.com may recognize a few of this riffs in this track. Chariot is the logical evolution from Norma Jean that you would expect from the ex-singer of Norma Jean’s new band. This song is crazy from start to finish. I think I got so disoriented listening to this song that as I danced I ended up punching myself in the face multiple times. So listen to this track at your own risk.
Track 14: another up and coming back who can be seen on the Young Bloods tour. I know much less about this band than any of the others. They sound like they could be something pretty good the recording on this track is pretty shaky. It seems like Further Seems Forever meets Underoath.
Track 15: This track really reminded me of some oldschool hardcore stuff. Almost some old Facedown Records stuff. That or some old Zao or Blindside. It is kinda hard to pinpoint. The lyrics are very bold as far as a message of Christ on this track which is always refreshing. The style seems a little slow for me.
Over all this is a pretty good compilation. I gave it the rating I did because only a few out of the new songs were something really special and all the others songs I already knew. But if you haven’t heard the other tracks on here that aren’t “new” check out this comp because it is chock full of rad tracks.
