Lives Lives

Out of the ashes of Winter Solstice rises Fjord. This Virginia sextet, picks up where Winter Solstice left. “Lives Lives? is a hard hitting debut that mixes the metalcore sound of Winter Solstice with the chaotic metal intensity of Normajean. “Lives Lives? is a good band, but there are just too many things that don’t separate Fjord from the massive sea of new bands in metal. One of their setbacks is that they are just too similar to, well, yeah you guessed it, Winter Solstice. Vocalist Matt Tarpey’s voice just at times gets to be extremely repetitive. Just as in “The Fall of Rome? by Winter Solstice, he just doesn’t vary his voice. It’s the same scream throughout the entire record. Another set back is that while it’s good, the music just lacks that special punch that gives Fjord the competitive edge. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good album and it grows on you. I just think that they are a band that needs to be given time to expand their writing and come out with a killer sophomore album. They have a couple of instrumental tracks that are refreshing and are actually some of my favorites on the album. They are more mellow and feel like they were written with more passion. Check them out and give them more than one listen, it will grow on you, I promise
