For those who Don’t already know I love Shane and Shane. They are probably my favorite song writers, lyrically and musically. I really tried not to let my bias effect my rating, I am sure it did, but in the end I do feel they deserved the 10 I gave them.
Shane and Shane and the band that plays behind them are amazing musicians. Their style has changed a lot since Shane Barnard’s first CD Rocks Won’t Cry” a lot of people see that as a bad thing I do not. The initial style was more acoustic complex picking patterns etc. Their new CD “Clean” is much less acoustic though still has a very acoustic feel (if that makes sense). Some of my favorite tracks on this CD are “Fringes” “Make Believe Jesus” and “Yearn.” The whole CD is wonderful but these 3 particular songs kinda hit me where I am at right now and really stuck out to me.
“Fringes” to me speaks about God’s Glory. How he stretched out the heavens over empty space made things from nothing. It reminded me how big our God is. And the song also reminds me that of all the things we know about God all the knowledge we have revealed to us it is just a small minescule portion of what God is. Which is rad who wants to serve a God that you in your own human mind can comprehend.
“Make Believe Jesus” The song title somewhat caught me off guard. But the lyrics had it made sense to me. I almost think of it as “Make Me Believe Jesus” it talks about “mountains groan seas roll because all they know is you and you alone.” To me this song speaks to my lack of focus. If I truly focused on who Jesus is how could I ever not give Him all the Glory he deserves.
“Yearn” just speaks about a longing for the Lord with your everything. That is all I ever try to do and fall so much so this song really speaks to my heart.
I am not going to go through and pick apart every song I just want to show you what songs really spoke to me. If you like really intelligent lyrics quality music and an overall passion for the Lord you may enjoy this CD. I know these guys have really helped me learn new things about worship.
