Beneath the Medicine Tree

I have never really heard a good definition of an emo band. I have heard emotionally music” but in that case Slipknot is emo. Anger is an emotion after all. If I were to define emo based on this band I would define it as “beautiful” and “cute”. That is what this CD. Maybe I am just becoming a softy in my old age (nearing 22 July 29th BOOYAW). Something about this CD is amazing.

It is very strong lyrically and as I said above very cute. I mean lines like “She said I was the brightest little firefly in her jar.” How can you not think thats cute? My favorite track on this CD is entitled Priceless. I am not sure the exact subject matter but it has become my favorite new worship song. It speaks my heart in every sense of the word. The chorus goes like this “I need you like the dragonflies wings need the wind. Like the orphan needs home once again. Like heaven needs more to come in. I need you here like you always been.” Though I believe this song is written for obviously a very special lady this is my song to God and I thank them for writing it. One thing about their songs that I love is they are pretty much bare bones. The songs would be just as amazing if it was all acoustic vocals and a bongo. They are just well written songs they Don’t need everything else they stand alone as good tracks. Their are a lot of different subtle yet blatant lyrics that take a bit and then slap you in the face with the truth that lingers behind that takes skill. These guys possess it.

If you are looking for a CD to mosh to do not get this CD. But if your looking to fill your ears with great melodies well written songs and passionate lyrics this CD is for you.
