I kinda think I am lame at this point. The main reason is, is that I have had this CD for probably 2 1/2 months (since I saw him with Blindside) and I never once thought to review it. I thought of doing an interview, but a review? of a poetry CD? why would I? The better question I believe would be, why wouldn’t I? Ok on with the review.
Each poem has on intro of some delightfully cheesy and entertaining techno / elevator music. Some of the more serious poems are accompanied by music that really sets the mood, well done I must say.
A lot of Bradley’s stuff is controversial to say the least. Not that he is trying to do it to shock people, he is just real, he says what he needs to say to get the point accross and I think that is awesome. A good example would be the boobie poem” if that isn already controversial enough for most Christian Book stores is chaulk full of good ol controversy. The poem is amazing and convicts me to the core. It is a poem about purity and the joys of waiting until you are married purity on all levels not just not having sex but mind body soul. It is awesome.
“Manly Man” is another outstanding poem. To me it is something straight out of the book Wild At Heart. It talks about what it really means to be a man not the stereotypical man passed onto us by the media. What masculinity truly is. It has It’s bits of humor to add some flava and has an overall great message.
“The Hug Poem” is another beautiful poem talking about one of the most basic human desires. The need to be shown love. It is a one sided conversation with our Lord Jesus Christ asking him simply for a hug. It really is beautiful I mean who hasn’t in a fit of desperation asked God for a sign that he was there. And what better form than a “hug” from our creator.
One of the most entertaining (in a funny way) poems on this CD is “the annoying hardcore kid who goes to far” This is a poem about the scene to give a sample it goe something like “I am hardcore I will windmill kick you in the face everybody back up lets destroy this place” This poem is so funny and its so true to so many hardcore kids out there. Anyone with a sense of humor can enjoy this poem.
I only commented on a few of my favorite poems but it is really hard to pick favorites because they are all so good. A few nights ago after Bradley was done doing his thing a guy came up to buy merch table and said in a somewhat astonished way “It was Christian but it was good it wasn’t cheesy it was real.” and proceeded to buy a lot of merch. That is what Bradley Hatheway is
Christian Good Not Cheesy (in the sense of being mediocre and Real. Check out his CD.
