After they disbanded in 2010, the world thought that they may have seen the last of Confide. To our surprise, these veterans have returned to a new scene, and with an updated sound. Taking to Kickstarter to fund their new album, Confide allowed the fans to be a direct part of this album and offered different rewards (depending on your contribution). Now, you may have heard of the the band’s two frontmen, Joel Piper and Ross Kenyon. While Confide was out of the picture for the time being, Piper released solo music and Kenyon expanded his clothing line (Agape Attire). Returning to the album, All Is Calm” seems to be a forward movement on Confide’s part. I feel that the sound from previous albums were a result of the scene at the time and so “All Is Calm” is a direct product of the current scene. Many fans of Confide’s older music were disappointed to hear the new album due to what they claim is Joel Piper’s free reign in production of this album. Still I doubt the other members would just allow Piper to put out something they were not all content with. I do however agree that Piper seems to have had a major influence in the production of “All Is Calm”.Confide released the single from the album “Sooner or Later” earlier this year and received high praise. Long-time fans may be taken aback by the techno/pop sounding songs like “Give Me A Voice” and “I Wont Let You Go”. Personally I really do enjoy listening to Confide’s latest effort and believe that many others do as well. Lyrically Kenyon invokes a conviction that echoes in the lines
“‘Cause lions Don’t lose sleep over the opinions of sheep”
“I would take back all the time spent without you cause I’d be alone forever”
While my overall impression of “All Is Calm” is positive I do have some critiques on the record. I do know that the band personally produced the album but I wish the production was a little more heavy in certain areas. Some songs also seem to consist very different sounding parts transitioning from very heavy to soft. I was also very surprised by the techno-driven verse in “Days Are Gone” yet I eventually grew fond of the song. I would definitely recommend purchasing “All Is Calm” from iTunes or ConfideBand.com.
