The Children is Campy yet Creepy British Horror

If I’ve learned anything from horror movies it’s that children are terrifying, horrible little monsters. Why am I excited to have kids again? After seeing British horror film, The Children, I’m not so sure. The Children follows two on a family getaway at Chloe’s house. In attendance, their two husbands and five children. Soon after arrival, their child becomes very ill. Soon her illness spreads to the other children causing murderous thoughts and impulses ultimately culminating in the death of one of their husbands. How did this happened? Must have been an accident they assume. As the children’s impulses grow stronger, their boldness increases and their parents slowly begin to die off. Only their teenage daughter sees what is happening and tries to stop it. But will she be successful? You’ll have to watch it to know that.

The Children is a fun movie. At times, it’s very campy and silly but there is always a pervasive tension that hangs over every scene. Though it did not detour me from having kids, I might not take them to England… There is a lot of cringeworthy gore and language, but nothing to excessive, especially for seasoned horror fans. If you’re a fan of horror and think kids are creepy, this movie is for you!
