My post high school days, I graduated in 2000, were full of a lot of great music. However, the mid 00’s amidst all the hardcore and punk one indie band stuck out among the rest, that band was Sherwood. Sherwood was a perfect blend of melody and pop. Admittedly, It didn’t hurt that Sherwood guitarist Dan Koch also made a farcical side project called I’ll Beat You Up featuring hardcore renditions of nursery rhymes. You really should check it out.
Fast forward ten years and Koch is still out it now with his new band Pacific Gold. “The whole project still is so experimental” says Pacific Gold vocalist and former Sherwood guitarist Dan Koch, “We want people to take this ride with us”. After breezing through a Kickstarter campaign that reached 121% funding, Pacific Gold has announced that they will be releasing their upcoming LP through Bad Christian Music. Koch envisioned the band’s style after an eye-opening experience one Sunday in church, with a realization that old hymns need not be confined to a corporate worship mold or pre-conceived box, but had the potential to grow and be reimagined for today’s audience, struck him and Pacific Gold was born. The band’s partnership with BC Music will bring the new record this spring while the band’s previous self-titled EP can be heard and downloaded for free here https://pacificgold.bandcamp.com/.
