Bryce: Who makes up Selfmindead at the present? I understand you have gone through some line-up changes.
Marco: the line up-changes goes for more than us i guess. seems to me like scandinavia needs more kids who are into HC and metal. the thing is that allmost every band has like 3 sideprojects each so you know… well the core of selfmindead is timohakon ilkka and me(marko). since ole left to extol we have been looking for a replacement but then again we live in scandinavia…haha.
Bryce: So you are going in the direction of Hardcore mixed with metal. On your site you said “not because we want to…because we need to” what exactly does that mean?
Marco: haha we are fed up with that whole “attitude”-thing in hardcore/metal. i guess it was just a joke in the beginning. nothing very serious:)
Bryce: Is there a tentative date for the release of your next CD? Title? Subject matter?
Marco: no exact date sorry. we plan to record it in december/january and release it just before the summer if all work out fine. the title-ideas are secret.
Bryce: Is the CD going to be released and distributed by Solid State Records or are you guys releasing it through Sally Forth Records?
Marco: it is recorded for sally forth / the distro in us is still under nagotiation.
Bryce: How long until you website www.selfmindead.com is going to be launched?
Marco: haha like it says…it will be up later this fall 🙂
Bryce: Where are you recording the new album?
Marco: in two studios here in oslo norway. the drums will be recorded at a cult-studio called “amper-sounds” (2″analog-tape/24channels…) guitars and vocals will be recorded at one other cult-studio a bit later… i think we are mastering the whole thing in holland.
Bryce: For those who haven’t heard your stuff describe your style?
Marco: HC/metal…but with some variation to both exremes=violent and calm. hard to say…find out!
Bryce: How did you all come together to form Selfmindead?
Marco: it just happened you know… a bunch of friends covering mortification and deliverance… to make the answer short me and timo started early i met ilkka at this summer camp blabla our bass-player left we liked eachother…until timo left to school in southern sweden. i wanted to move to norway to play in other bands and ilkka was left alone…so he got married:) then after a year with a bit less “band” and more “longdistance-sideprojects” timo and ilkka(and wife) moved to norway…and here we are. here we met hakon who playes 4string/5string and we do music+look for a replacement… ole even tommy emil+some more who’ve all played with us are our best friends we are al trees in the same park…
Bryce: What is one of the craziest shows you have ever been involved in?
Marco: ahh hard to name one… meny might think that the biggest shows like in holland with over 7000people watching but I have to say that a show we did in furnace-fest/north carolina with acts like dillinger escape plan not waiving but drowning living sacrifice + many more… have to mention the show we did in orebro with meshuggah in -01. it was crazy…
Bryce: The lyrics on the last CD were awesome very straightforwardare the lyrics to the new album similar?
Marco: thanx man! the lyrics are getting more “poetic”. the subjects are very important just like before but we need to go deeper this time…just like with the songwriting. we really feel that it is working out very nice and this all will be a big lift for us.
Bryce: How is the hardcore scene in Sweden as compared to what you have noticed in the states?
Marco: i think it is less about “attitude” or “image” and more about getting good in what you do. it is a different culture over there. everything is supposed to be big… sometimes the beauty falls…
Bryce: What is one valueable lesson you have learned from all your time being in the band?
Marco: no short answers… other country blue-berry. own country strawberry.
Bryce: Would you like to add Anything else?
Marco: take care bryce.
