Is getting a tattoo wrong?

That is fully between you and God. Just do not do it for selfish reasons.

Leviticus 19:28

“Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.”

This verse is often quoted in circumstances against tattoos. I could throw out there that this is in the Old Covenant, and I guess I just did but that is not the thrust of my reasoning. Within the context even of this sentence but certainly the surrounding verses you see that these tattoos had a purpose. This can be seen in the phrase “for the dead” in some way these tattoos were used in tandom with spirit worship. So, if that is the case for you, then yes they are wrong. Another thing to keep in the back of your mind is this.

1 Corinthians 10:31

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do do it all for the glory of God.”

This is a good rule of thumb to follow. God can use a wide assortment of things to bring glory to Himself. Can you look at the motivations of your heart and know that they are good? Are you doing it to upset someone or hurt someone?

If the motivation of your heart is wrong, I think you should re-think it. Otherwise, GO FOR IT! TATTOOS RULE.
