Aug 4th | REVOLT! REVOLT!
This next section can be seen as an elaboration on Romans 12:2
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
There is an interesting phrase in verse 1 I want to deal with. The phrase is "done with sin." What exactly does this mean, I look at my life and the lives of others and do not see anyone being done with sin. We live in a fallen world and this side of eternity we are not per[ READ MORE | Posted on: August 4th, 2010 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]

Jul 29th | They did it, Now it's our Turn
Peter has just exhorted us to "live sacrificially" so that no one can slander us based on our actions. Now to the perfect example, Christ (v. 18) says "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God." Christ was focused He knew what He was to do and went for it. He did so for our good and for no other reason, His love for us drove Him to die for us. He is our perfect example and we are powered by the same spirit.
This next section puzzled / puzzles me... I read up a little on it and it seems[ READ MORE | Posted on: July 29th, 2010 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]

Jul 28th | Scenes of Hope
Two scenes: both rainy: Downpour!
Scene One:
Once the rain begins, the two characters look for shelter; for refuge from the storm. There has to be somewhere to take cover while it passes over. Though the rain continues; they seek out and find a dry spot to post up while the rain runs its course.
Scene Two:
One character, for reasons we do not understand, walks to the window-front but stands in the rain; deadpan and miserable. He seeks no refuge or dry spot, but sits in the rain complaining about how wet he continues to get.
Once character chooses hope, the other despair.

Jul 28th | That's the Boyscout Motto!
Just incase you were curious... it's "Be prepared."
This section of text is incredibly challenging because in most situations it goes directly against "the way it should be." The first part sounds good, live in harmony, love each other. I'm trackin with that. "Do not repay evil with evil... but with blessing." WHAT! I don't know about you, but that is hard for me and most people consider me a "nice guy," whatever that means. I like that it follows it up with some proverbial wisdom.

Jul 15th | How to Lose friends and Alienate Women
It's easy read them this section of text and don't apply any amount of critical thinking....
It is this kind of stuff that makes people think that the bible is anti-women... blah blah blah... It's just not true. In a time when women were sex objects, temple prostitutes, second class citizens, Christianity gave women rights, demanded respect and care for women. But anyways... onto the text.
It is important from the beginning to say a few things:
(1) this has to do with marriage and has nothing to do with dating
(2) Before getting[ READ MORE | Posted on: July 15th, 2010 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]

Jul 13th | The Warm Fuzzies
I gotta say... Peter sure knows how to make us get excited about serving the Lord! I mean submit yourself to authority as a slave submits to his master, good stuff!! ...
That is a rough rule. It is things like this that make it difficult to understand statements like "Christians use their faith as a crutch." Because Christianity causes you to go way out of your normal comfort zone and calls you to a love and respect beyond our natural desires.
Why do we do this? Why do we submit (honor or show respect)?
(1) so when others try to bad mouth[ READ MORE | Posted on: July 13th, 2010 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]

Jul 13th | This is Threefold
The Stone (4-8):
This precious stone, this cornerstone is Jesus. The idea of the cornerstone is pretty easy. This is the weight bearing stone, without this stone the building would not be able to stand securely. The problem with this stone is that it looked odd, it could easily be thrown away or "rejected" because it's place was not easily seen. Upon further investigation the builders would see that the stone they rejected and threw away was the stone that was needed for the entire house to stand. Now we see where Jesus fits into thi[ READ MORE | Posted on: July 13th, 2010 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]

Jun 28th | Dont be such a baby! or... Do?
There is that word again THEREFORE...
So... All men who have attempted to disprove and discredit God's word are long gone. They have withered and fallen and yet God's word remains. Because this is where our hope is, because we are made new, regenerated "born again" we are told to get rid of a few things. Some more cleaning needs to be done.
We are told to rid ourselves of...
Malice - evil intent on the part of a person who commits a wrongful act injurious to others.
Deceit - the act or practice of deceiving; concealment or distortion of the [ READ MORE | Posted on: June 28th, 2010 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]

Jun 13th | Perishables Aisle 7
I will be honest up front. I am going to skip over a lot of stuff in this section to get to something I have noticed in this book...
In this first Chapter Peter uses the word (perish or perishable) 6 times. Now... if I was writing a letter and I really wanted to get a point across I believe repetition would be my tool. So I am going to assume this is a deliberate thing....
I think it's because a lot of us live our lives for perishable things: Perishable pleasures, pursuits, material possessions etc. What Peter seems to be saying here[ READ MORE | Posted on: June 13th, 2010 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]

Jun 1st | Leave it All Behind
In order to make sense of these verses you have to take them in the context of the letter so far. Weird how that works huh? So basically you got this...
(1) You have been chosen by God, set apart by His love mercy and grace.
(2) This grace gives you hope when you face trials and pain. Hope because your pain is temporary but purposeful and your goal is eternal.
(3) this salvation you receive is something those before you only dreamed of, we have experienced it!
THEREFORE! Whenever I see that word I say "Hey, what is that THEREFORE there for??"[ READ MORE | Posted on: June 1st, 2010 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]
