Aug 9th | Wake Up, Today Awaits You
There’s a line in this book I’ve been reading called Cold Tangerines by Shauna Niequist that has changed my life. She concludes her chapter “On Waiting” by saying this profound phrase:
“You are more than dust and bones.
You are spirit and power and image of God.
And you have been given Today.”
That last sentence really hit home for me, and more recently it has been stirring within my heart. We have been given Today. It’s fascinating to think about how waking up to a new day, every day, is s[ READ MORE | Posted on: August 9th, 2011 PST | By: Brenda Abel]

Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but Nobody wants to Die
"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it." Luke 9: 23-24
What does it mean to follow Christ? Jesus laid it all out on the table for everyone to see in the Gospel of Luke, among other books in the Bible. Jesus always spoke very specifically when addressing the crowds and the apostles. On this specific occasion, Jesus was teaching his apostles what it meant to follow Him. “For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
[Luke 6:43-45]
I came to know the Lord 12 years ago. Ever since making that life-changing decision, I’ve experienced more judgment and confrontation [ READ MORE | Posted on: June 25th, 2011 PST | By: Brenda Abel]
| | Jun 15th | Judge Your Neighbor As Yourself
Isn't that how it goes? My heart's desire is to see myself and others follow Jesus, I mean really follow Him with reckless abandon. I want to be what Keith Green described as "bananas for Jesus." Trouble is I'm a screw-up. I mess up, I hurt others, I turn away from God, I am not good enough to do it on my own. The truth is none of us really are (Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:11).
Being in a leadership role at a church, I am often called upon to confront sin in the lives of leadership. This, you can probably imagine, is not a fun or pop[ READ MORE | Posted on: June 15th, 2011 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]
| | May 22nd | There's Beauty In Your Battle
*I wrote this during a time of battle last year, but I feel that the Lord has brought me back to revisit it. I pray it still encourages you.
God knows something you don't know...
He knows all the facts--All the facts about your situation.
At best you know relatively few facts regarding yourself.
God sees the whole picture--past, present & future.
You're in the middle--
He views from the outside--with transcendent wisdom.
He knows you in the total context of your life.
He knows [ READ MORE | Posted on: May 22nd, 2011 PST | By: Brenda Abel]

“There is no such thing as the right place, the right job, the right calling or ministry. I can be happy or unhappy in all situations. I am sure of it, because I have been … deciding to do this, that, or the other for the next five, ten, or twenty years is no great decision. Turning fully, unconditionally, and without fear to God is. Yet this awareness sets me free."
-Henri J.M. Nouwen
I find it so interesting that we have been told our entire lives that our success in life is measured by what we do. When we were younger, we were asked, “What do you w[ READ MORE | Posted on: April 25th, 2011 PST | By: Brenda Abel]
| | Jun 15th | Faith in What?
Faith can often be a murky topic. What is faith after all? Isn't it just believing in something that you have no tangible proof for? To most people the answer to this question is "yes." I'm not to sure though. Most Christians would pull their definition of faith from the scripture in Hebrews 11:1.
"Now faith is the confidence of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. "
For many people this confirms their suspicions that it's simply belief in something you cannot see. I believe the author of Hebrews had[ READ MORE | Posted on: June 15th, 2011 PST | By: Bryce Cooley]
| | Apr 14th | What Are You Dying For?
“We know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him.”
Romans 6:6-8
The act of dying to something is one of surrender and change. As followers of Christ, we are called to die daily for what we believe in. Jesus took the sin of the world and placed it upon Himself in order that we may liv[ READ MORE | Posted on: April 14th, 2011 PST | By: Brenda Abel]
| | Apr 4th | The Fog
"As I came home from church one evening, I was struggling to recognize God's guidance for my life. Suddenly, I drove into dense fog and could see nothing. Poking my head out the window, I noticed a tiny light from the road ahead. As I inched my car forward, it blinked out and another set of oncoming headlights took its place some yards ahead. I crawled along, following just the short distance I could see--one light after another--until the fog cleared. Then I realized that this is how God guides me. He shows me how far I need to go at any given moment. And step-by-step, I move [ READ MORE | Posted on: April 4th, 2011 PST | By: Brenda Abel]

So, I'm into this television show. I am in a stage in life in which I'm investing quite a bit in myself physically. I have lost a ton of weight in the last several months and I feel great. I think it is a brilliant strategy that my gym is constantly playing shows like The Biggest Loser. It keeps me motivated in my goals related to my health and physical well-being.
I have noticed that our culture has become obessed with the idea of being healthy. Every insanely unhealthy chain restaurant I visit now has the calories in the menu. The word Organic is now a norm instead of somethin[ READ MORE | Posted on: April 4th, 2011 PST | By: Ryan DesJardin]
