We live in a society that plans. In our society we tend to have 5-year, 10-year, and 20-year plans for ourselves, our families and our faith. Because of this we like to plan ahead. People choose their professions, their schools, write out their wills, and get life insurance so that they can rest in the knowledge that they know what’s coming. Feb 27th | Fear the Lord!... ?
I enjoy Francis Chan. He seems to be grounded in the word and straightforward and challenging in his teaching. Recently while preparing for youth group, I watched a short devotional video by Francis entitled “Basic : Fear God.” This is a devotional based off of that video. I am not wholly convinced by his words, but I do see a validity to them, and they have challenged me to look at my preconceived ideas of what “fearing God” means and see what the Bible says. Aug 28th | Who needs Jesus?
This message does not come from a place of piety or self-righteousness but is delivered to you with a heavy heart. Over the years in ministry I have become acutely aware of the drift away from a transforming relationship with Christ and reverence for God's word. Aug 21st | Choking Ourselves
My wife and I have a new puppy. Her name is Abby, short for Abacus. Abby is a Wirehaired Terrier Schnauzer mix. She is small but not annoying, full of energy but likes to snuggle, and very loving. I try to take her on two or three short walks around our complex a day. She loves being outdoors and is constantly running to smell every bush. Unfortunately, she is running in place because Abby weighs 12 pounds and I weigh in at around 220, making it difficult for her to make any headway. This is a repost from a website called GotQuestions.org. The question was asked "How should we live our lives in light of our identity in Christ?" I was very encouraged and challenged by the answer. What we see isn't all there is. This is something that has been on my heart a lot lately. I'm not a guy that harps on the media all the time. I love music, tv and movies as much as the next person, but lately I've been frustrated. There is so much stuff being "sold" to us as reality on a day-to-day basis, and it's so far off that they are but a shadow of the reality they attempt to profess.
