Lies of Humanity
The Westernization of Christianity has taken its toll. Instead of being about the Holy Trinity, it has become entrenched in the belief in ourselves, basically what we can do to save ourselves, not what has already been done. We have a measuring system somewhat like this (from least to greatest): horribly sinful person--sinner--saved by grace--saved and doing better--near enough to perfection to act perfect. We have all these levels of right and wrong. Homosexuality beats murder...murder beats adultery...adultery beats lying...so on and so forth.... The list goes on, but the probl

From The Other Side (Hebrews 4:12)
Does God still speak today? It is a question that comes to mind often. The exact question usually can go somewhat like these: Does He speak? How does He do it? What tools does he use? Can He use me? How do I know it is Him? These are all very logical questions and great things to ponder. I do it a lot. Here is what I found Hebrews 4: 12 (NASB) had to say about the Living Word of God. “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to ju

Choose Better
Luke 10:38;42 38As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"     41"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42bu

Destined to Fail
Some people have trouble pursuing peace with God because they do not know God.  They do not have a relationship with Him so the idea of trust seems foreign.  Biblically speaking this is the case with the majority of people. Matthew 7:13-14 | 13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. In other words more people will choose to go against God then to have peace with God.  This may not

Ego Trip
I have not admitted this to very many people, but I am a very sin-filled person, not just that, but sinful. I have my struggles like all of mankind. I should have probably told that fact to a lot more people than I have. I most likely would not have made so many enemies and disappointed so many people. The problem is sin gives us a feeling of self-righteousness, like we can make it on our own. It makes us question whether we really need God to be there or not. Or if that question really matters at all. I've been there. I am still at that point some times. Sometimes we have gotten so

Communication Breakdown
So many Christians today believe that there is some magic sauce or recipe for getting to God--"If I only do this," soon becomes, "if I had only done that," and so on. Pretty often our "saved by grace" turns into "saved by works." The most common words that I hear from Christians is, "I need to get rid of this sin before I can really be saved genuinely," or that "I need to do more things in the Church." These sayings suggets that our salvation is all about the things we do, not about who God is. In real

Words Without Fear
Anybody who knows me knows that I obsess over the book of Philippians. One verse that catch's my attention each time is 1: 14. It says this: “and that most of the brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear.” This verse applied back when it was written and still applies today. Firstly lets get some background info, Paul was imprisoned in Rome around AD 60 where this epistle was written. It was written to the Roman city of Philippi. It is called the epistle of joy because of how joyful Paul is even

Kickstart This!
“In All things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” Acts 20:35 You may have heard about the latest trend in the independent music scene: The Kickstarter campaign. I'll be the first to admit that I have contributed to a few in my day but that I'm starting to get tired of the way it makes people feel about giving. What I mean is that we give to expect something cool or a “limited edition” back. G

But what if....?
Matthew 6:34  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.  I have addictions.  Many addictions.  Addictions in my past that haunt me today.  Addictions I still deal with to this very moment.  If you knew me a few years ago, you would know me as the chain smoking music addict. I am lucky enough to not be a chain smoker anymore.  Music?  Well thats an addiction I can live with.  But a few that I still struggle with today are worry and contro

I Get Angry When I Pray
Praying used to intimidate me. And I am not talking about like a passing fear. I am talking intimidation to the point of not even doing it at all.  I remember when I was a kid, I prayed so hard for the little things--a sweet toy I wanted or a video game. But as I got older, I started formulating all these reasons in my head to get out of praying. It felt more like a chore than a gift.  People have many different reasons for not praying.  1. He never answers me.  (Are you listening for ALL the answers?) 2. I don't have time.  (Seriously?)
