Reading the Bible has always been a challenge for me. I am not going to lie and say that everytime I crack it open, I understand exactly what God is trying to tell me. But that is because I am no where even close to being worthy enough for it to be that easy.
God challenges us for a reason. If anything were easy to attain, there would be no value to it. And what is faith without value?
There is a particular person in the bible that comes to mind when I think about the challenges I face in life. And that person is Job.
If you are unfamiliar with Job, I will say he is one extraordinary character. Job was a great man. He had many children and a bunch of land. To say the very least, he was beyond blessed. And the best part about it was he knew it. He was God-fearing and honored God every chance he got.
One day, Satan appeared before God and challenged him (big mistake). Satan claimed that the only reason that Job was so loyal to the faith, was because God had blessed him with pretty much anything he had ever needed and then some.
The Challenge from Satan: If you let me torment this man, he will curse your name before I am through with him!
The only catch God gives: You cannot kill Job.
This is where in my mind I picture Satan sitting back and cracking his knuckles like a computer hacker preparing to take down the CIA mainframe. This is also where the worst things immaginable began to happen.
Satan in ONE DAY killed ten of Job's children, all of his servants, and every last one of his livestock. Job was dumbstruck. He mourned deeply by shaving his head and tearing all his clothes. But you wanna know the crazy thing?
He STILL BLESSED GOD.
Satan returned to God, defeated at his first chance to beat Him.
"Gimme one more crack," he said. God said, "Let it be done."
So Satan caused Job to contract horrible sores on his skin. Job's wife begged him to curse God and let it be over with. BUT STILL JOB HONORED GOD IN PRAYER!! He refused to die, and refused to blame God.
Over the course of time Job's friends swore that he had done somthing to irritate God, because God would never do this to a human being.
"You must have done something horrible."
Job called them liars, and CONTINUED TO PRAISE GOD! ( You catching a theme here?)
After many days of constant torment from friends and family, God finally appeared to Job, asking questions and demanding that Job answer them. Overwhelmed by God's power, Job sings the praises of God.
So you know what God did? He doubled what Job had before Satan had taken everything--double the livestock, land, servants--and also gave Job new children.
Ladies and Gents, THAT IS FAITH!
What would you have done in this situation? I have a hard time getting through "bad" days sometimes at work. But Job, heck, he would just be getting warmed up,
God will never give you anything you cannot handle.
You can pray for faith,bBut does God give you Faith, or does he give you the chance to be FAITHFUL?
Just food for thought.
"In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing."
