Wondering what music you may be missing out on? Check out this list to see what to expect from some great artists in 2014.
No doubt one of the heaviest and most energetic bands in the scene. These guys know how to put on a great show and get the crowd pumped for every song. A unique aspect of this band is that (on the vocal aspect of the band) it consists of two screamers, which is rare in this genre. That being said, neither vocalist compromises the other, and their joint forces make for a powerful delivery.
2. Fit For A King
These guys have been on the rise since their latest release, “Creation / Destruction,” being showcased on numerous high-profile tours. There are no other contenders when it comes to rising artists in Christian heavy music, FFAK have proven their place in metal. With the recent departure of Aaron Kadura, who did clean vocals on “Creation / Destruction,” and the reissue of “Descendants,” it is hard to say what the new album will bring to their sound. Hopefully, it is another huge step for the band.
3. Betraying the Martyrs
I was in awe of Betraying the Martyrs when I watched their music video for “Man Made Disaster.” They demonstrate an unyielding power and brutality that puts them at the forefront of the metal genre. Each member proves to be a master musician on their instrument, which makes this band stand out above the rest.
4. Darkness Divided
A hard-working band that has recently made a name for themselves by being signed to Victory Records. With their new status, Darkness Divided plans on touring in the coming months, followed by recording their first full-length that will be released later this year.
5. Devil You Know – Beauty of Destruction
Howard Jones (former Killswitch Engage) has founded Devil You Know with a few others to make his presence known again in the metal scene. Composed of some unbelievable talent, Devil You Know plans on releasing their first album April 29 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Metal.. Howard Jones.. What more do you need to know?
6. The Color Morale
Personally, having known this group of men since their first album, it is astounding to see the amount of attention they have received with their latest effort “Know Hope.” This album has helped to start a movement among the fans, leading to an outpouring of support for The Color Morale. Vocalist Garret Rapp confronts the real issues of the human condition, and he demonstrates his authenticity in his songs. There’s a lot to be offered from such an underrated band, and 2014 will be another breakthrough year for them.
7. Miss May I – Rise of the Lion
Understandably, Miss May I is yet another band dominating the metal genre. Their latest release “At Heart” was another display that further defined who they were, and who they are becoming. Now, MMI plan on releasing their next installment “Rise of the Lion” via Rise Records.
8. I, The Breather
While having lost a couple of members, I The Breather plans on returning stronger than ever with a new album in 2014. They recently released a single “The Setting Sun,” with a somewhat modified sound. That isn’t to say that you cannot hear ITB in the song, but you will hear where they plan on taking the band.
