Anybody that knows me knows that I absolutely love the beach. Even more than that, I love the sunset at the beach. This week I was blessed by an unexpected surprise. I arrived at school for my college class (which happens to be 10 minutes from the beach) only to find out that it had been canceled without our teacher letting us know. Well, now what? We were stuck at school with no class, we couldn’t go home yet because of traffic (that’s California for you), and we had no plan B. That’s when my best friend and I decided to spontaneously take a trip down the street to the beach.
I will be honest and say that this week has not been the easiest week for me. But with that trip to the beach, God showed me so very much.
The first thing He showed me was this:
We often forget to pay attention to the little blessings that God puts into our lives each and every day.
The beauty of a sunset, the laughter of a child, a flower full in bloom, a shooting star: all of these are little reminders of how much God cares for each one of us!
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” –James 1:17
God really showed me that night that it’s the little things in life that matter. He is blessing us so immensely each day simply because of His great love for us! Just as a lover does thoughtful things every day for the one he is madly in love with, God is our ultimate Lover, madly in love with each one of us. It’s up to us to make the decision to see the little things and appreciate them.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” –1 John 3:1
Another thing God revealed to me was this:
On the beach, I was really struck by the seashells. On this particular beach, there were quite a few seashells washed up on the shore, unlike a lot of the beaches here in California. I started walking down the shore in the sunset, picking up the shells as I went. And as I was holding them, I was struck by something.
We, as Christians, are all like the seashells.
We’re all so unique; no two are the same. We all have such varying stories of how God brought us to Himself, and showered us in undeserved grace. Some of us have been through harder times than others; therefore, we are “broken around the edges” or “chipped.” But these storms of life didn’t break us; they just taught us and built our character. We’re all different sizes, different shapes, and different colors, but we are all the same.
We have all been saved by undeserved grace by an all merciful and loving God.
So, in short, take the time to focus on the little things God is blessing you with. Don’t just take them for granted; appreciate them and praise God for them! And start looking at people as seashells, all washed up on the same shore, but all saved by the same amazing grace. Change your perspective and start looking through the eyes of Jesus.
I pray this blesses you! Feel free to send me a message and tell me about the little things God is putting into YOUR life just to bless you!
