Robbing God

Would you believe me if I said that you can rob God? Check out Mal 3:8 & 9:

[8] Begin by being honest. Do honest people rob God? But you rob me day after day. "You ask, 'How have we robbed you?' "The tithe and the offering–that's how! [9] And now you're under a curse–the whole lot of you–because you're robbing me." (MSG)

Notice that the Bible says "rob", not "steal". Stealing is an act where you take something of another person while he is not looking. Robbing someone is where you take something forcefully and violently. Imagine you hitting God and ripping away something that does not belong to you! He loves us so much, and this is how we repay him! Notice verse 9. It is Biblical truth that you are cursed by God if you do not give your tithe. That first ten percent of your income (allowance, whatever?) never belonged to you in the first place. You are not doing God a favor by giving Him a present when you give your tithe. You just hand over what already belongs to Him! A lot of people mix up tithe and offering. You only start to offer to God when you already gave your tithe!

Let’s look at the other side (this part gets me excited!), Mal 3:10 "

[10] Bring your full tithe to the Temple treasury so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. TEST ME in this and see if I don't open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams." (MSG) I’ll even throw in the King James if you have trouble believing this! "[10] Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." (KJV)

That, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, is what you look at when you trust in the Almighty! I?m not telling you to give to the Lord just because you want something in return. Give to Him from a pure heart with thanksgiving. Realize that for every cent you give Him, He has ALREADY blessed you with 10 times that amount!

Jer 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. (KJV)

Who do you trust? Do you trust in your job, your savings account, your shares, your parents? These are all things that could disappear in a second. It could take a single stock market crash to make a lifetime of savings disappear into thin air. Collect treasure in heaven by trusting in God.

This message is not supposed to take you on a guilt trip. Just give to God what belongs to Him! It is not about giving to your church, but giving to God. If you know for a fact that your church does not use money wisely (but be VERY sure), use the money for the purposes of God. Let the Holy Spirit guide you as to how to sow into God's kingdom. There are many organizations out there busy with the work of God that desperately need funding.

I myself am currently challenged in this area. One thing I refuse to do is to stop giving my tithe. It is even more important than food. I trust in God. I KNOW He will come through! Keep watching this space!

'till later
