Our Defense Against Sin

"Our great defense against sin lies in being abhorred by it." – CS Lewis

Here are some amazing passages. "Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked." Psalm 97:10

"To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech." Proverbs 8:13

"Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts." Amos 5:14-15

"…Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." Romans 12:9

We can't allow this, we can't allow this any longer. Love is here and it's here to stay, the problem is that we love what we should hate.

This lesson is simple, learn to hate evil, in all of its varying degrees. Learn to look upon the "smaller" sins with just as much hatred as you do the "larger" sins, and the Christian walk will become more obvious to you.

Satan has the incredible ability to deceive, and to deceive very well. He has pulled the veil over our eyes and duped us into finding sin attractive or lovely. Pray to God that He would tear that veil from your eyes and finally be abhorred by the evil that surrounds us.

I've heard this, that there are a few qualities of a wise man or woman in the Bible, (1) they fear God and take Him seriously, (2) they discipline themselves in God's Word, and (3) they hate evil.

Learn to hate evil with a passion, learn to detest sin, sit and muse about how each of the vices that take hold of people today are truely an abomination of how things should be. We can't allow this any longer, we cannot allow evil to kidnap any more of us and hold us prisoner.

It's seems to be a straightforward corollary, if you do not find sin horrendous then you do not fear God. The fear of God and taking every one of His words seriously is the first step to wisdom (says Proverbs).

Some people say CS Lewis was onto something with the above statement, but in actuality, he was only conveighing in new words Biblical Truth.

Our greatest defense against evil in this world, is how much we hate it. This world wants us to love what is detestable, to love what is atrocious, to love what kills others and ourselves emotionally, physically, and/or spiritually, this world wants us to love what God calls disobedience.

Learn to hate evil, in all of its many forms and degrees, learn to recognize evil when it is before you, and demand through the Blood and the power of the Name, that evil flees from you. After all, I would go so far as to say that even Heaven hates. Hate is not what I would say an entirely evil emotion, only when it is directed towards something that it was not created for. For instance, if we hate our brother then hate has become sinful, but if we hate evil it maintains being something just and good.

Be sure to love the things we were created to love, and hate the thing that we were created to hate: evil.

Fear God, take Him seriously, hate what is evil, discipline yourself in His Word, and pray with a fervent heart.
