Healing – Part 1

I noticed that a lot of the prayer requests on this site are requests for healing and I find it great that people still believe that Jesus can heal. I thought I would share some of the (limited) knowledge I have about healing in faith. I by no means think I know everything, and I believe that each situation should be dealt with individually, but I am convinced that there are certain rules that apply to most, if not all situations. Some of the things I write will sound very weird, but hey, being a Christian is "weird" so here goes.

I think two things I have to deal with first are two common questions regarding healing. The first, how can God heal me? And the second, does God want to heal me? The answer to both questions is YES.

Can God heal me? "And He [Jesus] cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet saying: 'He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sickness.'" (Matt 8:16-17) But can Jesus heal me today? "Truly, truly I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater works than these because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it." (John 14:12-14)

Number two, does God want to heal me? "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his unique Son so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) So we’ve established that God loves you, but something else happened on the cross that not a lot of Christians know about. "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth." (Isa 53:6-7) Jesus took the punch for ALL our iniquities and shortcomings. As He carried the weight of our sins, He carried the burden of all our sicknesses, as sickness is the result of sin (Psalm 107:17) Before Adam and Eve sinned, there was no sickness, and I believe that is from the brokenness of this world that people are afflicted by sickness and disease "He was oppressed, and he was afflicted…" (Isa 53:7)

The most important thing in prayer for healing of any kind is your faith in Jesus Christ: "These are the signs that will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands; even if they drink any deadly poison it will not hurt them; and they will place their hands on the sick, and they will recover." (Mar 16:17-18) If you have enough faith in Jesus, He will heal you and through you. It is important to understand that there are measures of faith (Rom 12:3). If you have trouble praying for healing, it does not mean that you do not believe in Jesus, it means that you have to spend time in fervent prayer seeking God and reading His word to increase your faith. "Consequently, faith comes from listening, and listening comes through the word of Christ." (Rom 10:17) Do not be afraid to use the mighty name of Jesus in your prayers. I have heard about a person being healed by just repeating the name of Jesus over and over. Satan will do whatever he can to break your faith. Check out Luke 4:1-14. The Devil tested Jesus and asked him to do certain things "if" He was the Son of God. Just like Jesus, we must know who we are. Jesus knew He was the Son of God, we must know that we are God's children (John 1:12), and have been given authority to trample snakes and scorpions (Luke 10:19). We must have the same attitude as Jesus Christ (Phil 2:5) Smith Wigglesworth says that if the Devil comes along and says that you are not saved, it is a pretty sure sign that you are. When he comes along and tell you that you are not healed, it may be taken as good evidence that the Lord has sent His Word & healed you (Ps 107:20) Unbelief starts in your mind. Do not allow your mind to become the place of the Devil’s stronghold. God has given us weapons to pull down the strongholds of the enemy (2 Cor 10:4-5). We must bring every thought captive in order to obey Christ. Do not allow yourself for even a second to think about lies of the enemy. The antidote for all the subtle seeds of unbelief sowed by Satan in your mind is Jesus? blood and His mighty Name.

Another important issue that I feel is necessary to cover is the origin of sickness. Satan came to steal, slaughter and destroy (John 10:10). You must realize that it is not God that wants you to be sick, it is Satan. He hates you and will physically kill you if he gets half a chance. Sin in your life can make the way for sickness and disease. "Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted." (Psalm 107:17) Do yourself a favor and read the book "They shall expel demons" by Derek Prince. He speaks of personal experience in his deliverance ministry and you will not believe how many common sicknesses are the direct result of demonic activity. I will deal with this detail in a later devo, but there are two very important steps to healing from sicknesses that result from demonic oppression. One, forgive every single person you hold something against and two, lay down and repent for the following of ANY false religions, cults or sects, like Jehovah witnesses, Freemasonry, Hinduism, etc. and especially any occult involvement. You need to break all ties with any of these things and plead for God's forgiveness.

If you can, get the book "Smith Wigglesworth on Healing" (ISBN 0-88368-426-8). This book will open your eyes to the truth in the Word of God. He says in his book "Look at God, not the person you are praying for & their situation. Don’t pray yourself under the burden ” these are out of place prayers & the charge the atmosphere with unbelief. Pray in faith for the impossible". That really grabbed me. How many times do I pray for someone to get well, but while I pray I think to myself, "How can this guy possibly get well? Just look at him, I’ll have to see it to believe it". That is the wrong attitude. You have to believe it, to be able to see it!

One last thing I realize more and more daily is that God wants us to seek Him for who He is, not for what we can get out of the deal. He already gave us everything ” He just wants us to love Him for who He is. Be happy and full of joy, not because your life is perfect (because it probably isn't) but rejoice because your name is written in the book of life and you have a God to whom you can run whenever you need to.

There is so much more I can write on this subject, and God willing, I will in future devo's, that's why this is healing part 1. I skimmed over things that I thought most important for now, but if you have extra questions, please mail me via the contacts page and I will try to get back to you asap.

I myself am not some super human, I have yet to experience most of these things myself, but God has given us the manual, we must muster the courage to use it. Allow God to speak to you and get His advice for your unique situation. Stand in faith and allow God to do a miracle.

'till later
