That is the question. Or should it be, "What is hardcore?" Personally I can't tell you what it originally meant or where it comes from. To me being hardcore is more than making music hard to blow your face off, or looking and acting so bad that your own mother is afraid of you. To me being hardcore is to have your heart fixed on something more solid and steady than yourself, knowing that you can not survive alone.
Let's look at Matt 16:15-18: He said to them, "But who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!" Then Jesus said to him, "How blessed are you, Simon, son of John! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven has. I tell you that you are Peter, and it is on this rock that I will build my church, and the powers of hell will not conquer it." (NIV)
This piece explains exactly what the essence of hardcore means to me personally. Do you think Peter was the rock? No ” the rock that Jesus builds His church on is the revelation that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God. If you have this rock in you, your core (heart) is unbreakable. The most important thing that bleeds from this rock is love. I think it was one of the vocals of Neshamah that once said that any person can solve a problem by using their fists, but it takes a real man to show love to people who don’t deserve it (none of us do anyway).
Luk 6:47-49: "I will show you what everyone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them. He is like a person building a house, who dug a deep hole to lay the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the floodwaters pushed against that house but couldn't shake it, because it had been founded on the rock. But the person who hears what I say but doesn't act on it is like someone who built a house on the ground without any foundation. When the floodwaters pushed against it, that house quickly collapsed, and the ruin of that house was devastating."
I don't know about you, but I want to be surf the waves of life, not drown in it. Note, to lay the foundation on the rock, you have to dig. I believe that this digging is to pursue Jesus and to never stop seeking a greater revelation of Him. Jesus Himself said to first seek His kingdom, and everything else He will give to you. That is a promise you can anchor your life on.
Matt 16:19 "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you prohibit on earth will have been prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will have been permitted in heaven."
That is another promise you can take hold of when you are built on the rock. This is for the guys and girls out there who believe that our faith can manifest the supernatural here on earth. Supernatural healing, breaking of demonic powers, setting people free, etc.
God will give us all we need and so much more if we dare to be hardcore.
