By what means do you measure the value of life? By how happy you are? By how much money you make? Perhaps, your standard is how comfortable your life is? As Christians, our answer to finding the value in life should not be found in worldly wisdom but rather in the teachings of scripture.
In Acts 20:24, Paul is talking to the church of Ephesus about how our lives as Christians should be measured. Scripture says that Paul was constrained by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem to preach the gospel. Even though he did not know what was in store for him, he knew he was called by God to go.
"But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God."
Essentially Paul is explaining that our lives are of no value unless we are testifying to the gospel. What a responsibility and privilege we have as Christians to truly live this out! I personally am challenged by this verse because we are called to be Christ's ambassadors, sharing the gospel with the world. If we are not living each day in honor of this, how valuable are our lives? Scripture says they are of no value.
We have to remember that this life we live is not our own. We've surrendered our self-righteousness over to God in exchange for humility and holiness. A valuable life is not defined by how much money we make, how many people we know, or even how many items we can cross off of our bucket lists. Our value instead is found in Christ, which is what compels us to share the gospel message.
Brothers and sisters, I join you in this challenge to live a life of value according to what God has called us to do. Remember to view each day as a blessing and an opportunity to share this beautiful gospel message with those you come into contact with. My friends, do not remain silent about the gospel, for we are completely robbing the world of an an amazing life with Jesus if we do not share it with them. God has given us many opportunities, and it is up to us to dive into them.
Keep fighting the Good Fight, live a Valuable Life.
